Shower walls, toilets, taps, floor drains, sauna floors. Sanitary facilities are places where limescale builds up faster than anywhere else. When an ordinary cleaner no longer does the job, it is time to bring out the heavy artillery. We have gathered five practical tips that will help you remove even the most stubborn limescale and keep sanitary facilities clear for a long time.
Tip 1: Recognise when you need a precision tool
Not all limescale is the same. Light surface limescale comes off with a milder acidic product, but when limescale deposits have formed a thick, pale layer on a shower wall, on sauna floor tiles or in a water channel, you need a particularly effective product.
HETI Kalkiton is a strongly acidic descaler with a pH of 1.0 as a concentrate. The secret lies in the raw material: HETI Kalkiton contains phosphoric acid and is therefore much more effective than, for example, descalers containing citric acid.

Tip 2: Use the right product in the right place
HETI Kalkiton is suitable for many surfaces in sanitary facilities, but not everywhere. Remember these points:
✔️ Suitable for: Removing limescale and rust deposits in sanitary facilities, tile and porcelain surfaces, and stainless steel surfaces.
❌ Not suitable for: Aluminium or marble/limestone.
When you are unsure about the durability of a surface, first test on a small, inconspicuous area.
Tip 3: Dose correctly and let it work
A strong product does not mean you should use more of it. On the contrary: the right dosage gives the best result and saves product.
Dosage instructions: Normal cleaning 10–100 ml per 5 litres of water.

Before washing – limescale deposits cover the floor.

During washing – Kalkiton begins to take effect, and the limescale “bubbles” as it comes loose.

Afterward – the surface is clean and free of lime.
For difficult limescale deposits, let the product work in peace. Our users’ experience says it all:
“Kalkiton starts to work and the limescale fizzes as it comes off.”
One customer described the cleaning of a swimming pool’s water channel quite simply: “the limescale just melted away”.

Before cleaning: The base of the faucet in the bathroom easily collects dirt and limescale and is difficult to clean.
After cleaning: Apply HETI Kalkiton immediately to the damp surface and let it sit for a moment. Scrub, rinse, and neutralize.
Tips 4: Always remember to neutralise after use
This is the step many forget, but it is absolutely essential. A strongly acidic product leaves tile grout acidic, which damages the grout over time and can also damage other acid-sensitive materials.
For neutralisation, HETI Jyty or HETI Raspo works well.
Also remember: when handling a strongly acidic cleaner, always wear protective gloves.
Tip 5: Keep Kalkiton as a precision tool, not a standard product
This is the professional’s rule number one: we recommend HETI Kalkiton only for targeted use, so it is not a standard product for every cleaning cupboard.
Kalkiton is the solution when the problem has already occurred: when limescale deposits cover the sauna floor or when a thick layer of limescale has formed in a swimming pool’s water channel. Once Kalkiton has done the heavy lifting, you move on to maintenance.
Bonus tip: Prevention is half the battle, HETI Kapu Joutsen
Once you have cleaned the surfaces with HETI Kalkiton, the next question is: how do you prevent limescale from building up again?
The answer is regular maintenance with a milder acidic product. For this, HETI Kapu Joutsen is exactly the right choice:

In other words: HETI Kalkiton solves the problem, HETI Kapu Joutsen makes sure it does not come back. When you build the cleaning routine for sanitary facilities around this duo, you save time, effort and product in the long run.
